Richard Smith summarised the firms 60 years in business and former employee Steve Barron, now Deputy Chief Executive at Highland Council, responded with some entertaining "historic" episodes from the staff perspective!

To mark the occasion, the Directors asked for suggestions for Charity recipients and agreed to make donations to Sue Ryder and Highland Hospice.

EGi Award for Agency Department

For the fourth consecutive year Allied Souter & Jaffrey's agency team have won the Estates Gazette interactive "Most Active Agent" award for the Highlands!

This is the result of ongoing hard work in getting deals "over the line" and Commercial Surveyor Andy Gray has been at the forefront of many of these. "Winning this yet again gives us great satisfaction." said Andy, whose deals have been in all sectors - retail, office and industrial, with a few licensed premises thrown in too.

Jeff Collins, the Director in charge of the Agency operation, added that the volume of transactions that the firm continue to oversee is a very positive economic sign, amidst a constant stream of gloom from the wider economy. "The north of Scotland continues to trade actively!" concluded Jeff.

This feed was drawn from the ASJ - Allied Souter & Jaffrey website

New Dingwall Office

Allied Souter & Jaffrey are delighted to announce our move to new premises in Dingwall.

Having been trading in the Ross-shire capital since the 1960's, this move reinforces our commitment to providing a local service for our Ross-shire clients and for the people living there. Office manager Iain MacKenzie says: "We've remained busy through the recent economic ups and downs and we expect our new office to enable us to handle our workload more efficiently with a better service as the end product for our long-standing and new clients."

Our new offices are prominently sited at Mayfield, at the junction of High Street with the by-pass and will accommodate our current surveying and support staff, with space for future expansion.

The Dingwall office is mainly involved with residential valuation, Home Report and Energy Performance Certificate provision, throughout the County and into Sutherland and the Islands.

This feed was drawn from the ASJ - Allied Souter & Jaffrey website

Nairn and Sainsbury - a force for good, hopefully!

The Inverness Courier (29th July) has picked up on a piece we've run on the effect of the new Sainsbury's store, due to open at Balmakeith soon.

Their Editorial supports the idea that the volume of new potential customers that this opening will bring about is a definite opportunity, and not the threat that many perceive.

In order to bring this about however, time is of the essence in making the town as attractive as possible to visitors. They simply wont stop at the town centre as long as they are put off by derelict buildings, many in the control of Highland Council.

Both the Council, and the individual business owners need to grab the initiative and turn this opportunity into reality before the edge-of-town development becomes the only show in Nairn!

Will west be best?

The imminent opening of two new supermarkets on the western side of Inverness will alter traffic trends and may push property prices in the area up, says local property firm Allied Souter & Jaffre

Will west be best?

The imminent opening of two new supermarkets on the western side of Inverness will alter traffic trends and may push property prices in the area up, says local property firm Allied Souter & Jaffrey.

For much of the last decade developers have focused on east Inverness, with a number of major residential and commercial projects proposed – with some suggesting the city centre will shift towards the A96 in the long term. However the Chartered Surveyors believe the imminent opening of both Asda and Tesco and a renewed focus by The Highland Council on the completion of the southern distributor road will result in a revival of interest in property around Lochardil and Holm.

Jeff Collins, Director at Allied Souter & Jaffrey, said: “We foresee the renaissance of the western suburbs of Inverness. Many years ago Lochardil was one of the city’s most popular areas, but it has been superseded by newer developments at Inshes, Westhill and Cradlehall. I believe that the presence of two new supermarkets in the west of the city will realign that balance. The retailers will bring job opportunities and infrastructure investment, making the area more popular, particularly with families. And a rise in demand will in turn lead to a rise in the value of land and homes. Our agency department are currently marketing development land a new local retail scheme in the area and we are optimistic that these will take off as soon as the current economic climate improves.”

“It would be great to see enterprising business people help make the area even more desirable by opening pockets of enterprise, such as neighbourhood bars, restaurants and deli’s.”

This feed was drawn from the ASJ - Allied Souter & Jaffrey website

Future-proofing!

In order to keep up with the latest technological trends, Allied Souter & Jaffrey have entered the "Twittersphere"! Far from the high-profile headline news involving Twitter, the property profession is adopting the medium as a fast and efficient way of exchanging news and views about relevant topics.

Director Jeff Collins commented that, although this is a new way of communicating, and that presently the firm are feeling their way into it, this is a technology that is here to stay and as a competitive Highland business, AS&J, (or @scotprop, as they are to be found on Twitter) must continue to provide the best service possible. Developing an understanding of new methods such as Social Media must form part of the company's strategy.

This feed was drawn from the ASJ - Allied Souter & Jaffrey website

Highland Spring Fever!

Whether it is related to the improving weather, the benign budget or the continuing hold that Inverness has over it's hinterland, demand for commercial property in the Highland capital continues to surprise.

Allied Souter & Jaffrey Director Jeff Collins reports that the firm have overseen several off-market transactions in recent weeks, most within the industrial and warehousing sectors.

It is true that Inverness still out-performs other Highland locations, but the company's agency department are also pleased with levels of enquiries in other areas, including Moray.

At the same time, the firm's Residential team are very busy, signalling a burst of activity in the domestic property world. The Isle of Skye is a particularly buoyant area, defying the gloomy statistics for most of the rest of the UK.

This feed was drawn from the ASJ - Allied Souter & Jaffrey website

60 years of experience!

1951 seems a long time ago now, but that indeed was the year when Jim Jaffrey and Bill Souter formed Souter & Jaffrey - at the time a brave new business in the Highlands, when it still took the best part of a day to travel to Perth!

Since then the firm has grown and adapted to meet the needs of the area and the developing economy, and many good professional surveyors have served their time within the business. While none of the present workforce can trace their contribution quite that far back, the firm does have a reputation for retaining people for many years. 3 of the present team have over 20 years service each.

While the economic future is difficult for anyone to predict right now, the Directors and staff at Allied Souter & Jaffrey will continue to work hard to service their clients needs.

This feed was drawn from the ASJ - Allied Souter & Jaffrey website
